We often hear of ‘super foods’ that will, supposedly, solve all our health problems.  Such claims are usually exaggerated, but this is not the case with quinoa (pronounced keen-wah) - a true super food with numerous health benefits.

Cultivated for thousands of years in South America, quinoa has been called “mother grain.” It is high in protein, fibre and several important nutrients.  The World Health Organization has judged the protein in quinoa to be as complete as that in milk.  This means that quinoa can be used as an alternative to animal proteins (meat, poultry, eggs, fish).  Quinoa is higher in fibre than other grains.  This is important because most people in North America do not get enough fibre in their diet.  Quinoa is also a gluten free grain which makes it very easy to digest.  In addition to all these benefits, there are larger quantities of calcium, fat, iron, phosphorus, and B vitamins than other grains. Quinoa is a powerhouse of nutrition and truly is a ‘super food.’

Is quinoa right for you?  That depends on your individual health issues and dietary needs. A Holistic Nutrition Assessment can determine the ideal diet for you, including whether quinoa would be your ‘super food.’
